Resource Smart School Funding

I am very pleased to let people know that we have been successful in our application to be a "Resource Smart School". This will involve auditing our current resource practices and introducing programs that extend our sustainability practices. There are 3 major projects planned to support sustainable practices at Paynesville Primary School.

We have 3 projects to undertake with this funding.

1.      Redeveloping and extending our school Stephanie Alexander Garden.

2.      Installing shade sails no the north side of the school.

3.      Purchasing outdoor seating to allow the whole school to eat lunch in the same area and to purchase two new waste and recycling bins.

Many aspects of these projects will rely on parent and community support to stretch our funding as far as we can. Watch the newsletter for opportunities to help out.

HAVING A GO & GIVING SOMETHING YOUR BEST SHOT...

I would like promote the concepts of Having a Go and Giving Something Your Best Shot. Many of the opportunities that come our way in life are grabbed by people who are prepared to step forward and have a go at something new. It is easy to say, but harder to do. Trying a new activity for the first time can be very confronting – especially if the activity is difficult. Whether it is learning an instrument, completing a long hike at Wilson’s Prom or joining a sports club, the nervous anticipation is often enough to overwhelm some people. Even if you do gather the confidence to try something new it may not work out – you may lose, you may fail or you may not see the season through.  Should the fear of failure put us off – of course not!
But the reward…the feeling of trying something you were not sure you could  do, the reward of self belief that comes from achieving something difficult is empowering and long lasting and it is always there to build on.
Then believing in yourself to give it your best – to put as much of your time and effort into an activity that your other commitments allow. Somethings are difficult to learn and they take real effort over time and there are times when the going gets tough. But these challenges are often the highlights in our week or our year – the tough parts that worked out well after you have had to dig deep and hang in there.  Having a go and giving your best are two attitudes to learning and life that anyone can take with them. I ask parents and staff to support and empower students to believe in themselves and to know that their best is good enough. The world is an amazing place and  I would love our students to be part of it, so be brave have a go and give your best.

Week One Review...

The first week back is always a busy one and this Term has been no exception.  It started with a jam packed assembly with lots of Mathletic awards for students who were diligently keeping up with the Maths during the Term 3 School Holidays.  I also interviewed the four students Darcy, Fran, Trinity & Jacob who travelled to China and asked what their highlights were.  It was nice to hear the varied responses from visiting Revolving Restaurants to speaking at Assembly at our Sister School in Changshu.  The week finished off nicely with Basketball and Volleyball competitions.  Bairnsdale Primary School visited PPS on Friday for Boys and Girls basketball games.  A great standard of competition was held and everyone gave their best.  7 Grade 5/6 Girls travelled to Bairnsdale West PS for the Volleyball competition.  They tried their best and improved with each game.  Congratulations to all students for a fantastic Week 1.

This week I will be heading off on camp with the Grade 5/6 students to Wilson's Promontory.  We are looking at 3 nights and days of hiking, nature talks and exploration.  It is a really beautiful corner of the world and I am looking forward to the challenges that we will face.

Footy Colours Day - Simply Magic!!

What a wonderful event Monday was. We had the students wearing their colours with pride and singing their team songs at assembly. Special guests from the AFL were Shaun, Alex and Adrian who ran clinics in the morning and signed jumpers. In the afternoon the students were involved in activites on the back oval and everyone walked away with a very memorable day.

The Hawks supportes wear their colours with pride!!

Parent & Teacher interviews are coming up this Thursday and Friday.
It is not to late to book a time to meet up with child's teacher to celebrate successes and makes plans for next term. Please call Lauren in the office for a booking.

A reminder that there are no classes on Friday but children are encouraged to attend their interviews as they are what it is all about.

Grade One Students - Successful Learners producing quality work.

Grade One students have been very busy last week. In addition to the book character parade and the Disco, grade one students also managed to complete their animal projects and present an item to our school assembly. The grade one students item was titled "The Science of Music" and it was a practical demonstration of the collaboration of between music and science. Well done everyone involved. We are always promoting the idea of "quality work" and being a "successful learner" and
I think the grade one students are on this journey. Mr Doyle sent me this little summary of what successful learners do...I hope you like it.WEll done grade 1.
